Wood carving is one of the oldest arts and a fundamental method of woodworking. It is a demanding and meticulous activity, beginning with the use of large cutting tools and ending with small blades. It always requires patience, precision, and passion.
For our master craftsmen, wood is an irreplaceable material that allows them to express their ideas and imagination like no other. Wood is also a living material, which makes the sculpted works so precious and requiring delicate care. The artisans must develop a true knowledge and a deep connection with wood in order to create exceptional works and decorative objects, and then pass on their precious skills to younger generations.
The first step involves removing excess material to create the rough outline of the final form. Wood carving must follow the unique grain of each wood species, influenced by its growth. More precise and detailed steps then follow. In our workshop, we create decorative sculptures, tableware, and elegant, one-of-a-kind home accessories.
Woodturning is a process that involves shaping wood using tools while it rotates on a spindle. Our turners use a wood lathe, which allows for various operations such as knurling, facing, turning, and drilling. With this technique, we create pieces such as bowls, vases, cups, and other rounded wooden objects.
Although our artisans are highly skilled, woodturning remains a slow art that demands total concentration of body and mind; each piece requires time. We carefully select the most suitable wood so that our turners can highlight its grain and character, creating objects that are both useful and beautiful.
Finally comes sanding, which aims to refine and smooth our wooden creations. This step requires experience and expertise to achieve the desired result.
