This Macassar ebony statuette depicts a Balinese dancer delicately holding her fan. Standing 20 cm tall, it captivates with its finely chiseled sculpture, where every detail – the elaborate headdress, the graceful pose, the subtle forms – remains compelling from any angle. A small piece of the headdress has been reattached, but it is barely visible.
Macassar ebony, native to Indonesia, takes its name from the port city of Macassar on the island of Sulawesi. This rare and dense wood is distinguished by a dark brown to black background, traversed by longitudinal black or chocolate veins, sometimes punctuated with reddish or golden highlights. Durable, stable, and resistant to moisture and insects, it is particularly prized for luxury cabinetmaking.
A beautiful wood for lovers of precious woods, full of delicacy.
