Julian Coche Mendoza is a Mayan artist from San Juan La Laguna, near Santiago Atitlán in Guatemala. He is the second of five brothers in his family to become painters. He was taught by his older brother, Antonio Coche Mendoza, the first Mayan painter in the city.

Passionate about the daily life and culture of Guatemalans, he spontaneously and naturally captures everyday scenes and rural Mayan life, playing with the bright and vibrant colors of his country. For him, art is a way to preserve and transmit Mayan culture.
