This antique Asian wedding basket, also known as an auspicious basket , is a rare and meaningful piece. Made of woven bamboo with three nested compartments, it was once used to carry offerings and gifts during traditional wedding ceremonies, lavish rituals that could last up to twelve days.
Its wide, curved handle, carved from bamboo and engraved with motifs of leaves and bamboo stalks, elegantly encircles the basket, symbolizing the unity and continuity of the marital bond. The interior of the compartments is varnished, while the openwork central section allows light to pass through and highlights the exquisite craftsmanship.
Although a few pieces of bamboo are slightly detached, the whole remains in very good condition, a testament to the solidity and timeless beauty of this traditional object.
